Our farm-dyed wool hats are here!
We are so proud of these hats made from our lustrous wool, washed and dyed here on the farm, then spun into yarn in a small Connecticut mill and then made into fleece-lined hats. These quality hats are sure to keep you warm on even the coldest winter days. Wool is naturally antibacterial and doesn’t need regular washing but should you need to clean your hat hand wash in Woolite or (our personal favorite) Eucalan. Our wool is mixed with 20% nylon for a little forgiveness should these hats accidentally make it into a washing machine. This is a limited run so come by the farm store or order online to get yours. (Ridgefield delivery included).
THE CONSCIOUS CARNIVORE
We take raising livestock very seriously and have a deep respect for every animal that spends time on our farm. On our farm we pasture-raise all of our animals and choose organic grain where possible and necessary. Our lambs, for example, stop having grain once they get on pasture at 8 weeks. We have proudly partnered with Snow Hill Farm in North Salem, just 6 miles away, to bring you certified organic, grass fed beef and pork to compliment our farm’s offerings.
Our conscious carnivore package consists of 5 boxes, with delivery within Ridgefield, Danbury and North Salem. The boxes will be ready late June, late July, late August, and then in September and November. Each box will have a selection of seasonal meat that will include two varieties of either chicken, pork, beef, lamb or rabbit. We will be sure and include a couple of our favorite recipes to get you started with each box to get you inspired.
The August, September and November boxes will be enough for 3 meals for a family of 4. The June and July boxes will be smaller, serving 1-2 meals for a family of 4 . The November box will also include products made from our meat, such as pate, sausages or stock.
A note about rabbit: We know that some of you may have never tried rabbit before. Please give this a go. You will be pleasantly surprised. We raise two heritage breeds with different culinary virtues that we will highlight in your recipes. Our farm chose to start raising rabbits this year as we truly believe they leave a smaller environmental impact as well as provide a lean, delicious meat reflecting the heritage of many many cultures around the world.
We proudly raise Romney sheep, raised on organically-maintained pasture from weaning at 8 weeks of age. They are a dual purpose breed producing lustrous long-wool and their meat is known for being flavorful, sizable, but not overly fatty like some breeds. We have a limited number of shares and our customers have repeatedly given great feedback about our product. Shares are sold as a whole lamb or half lamb. The final price will be based on their weight but in general a whole share is about 45-50lb and a half share is about 25lbs. When you purchase a lamb share from a small farm like ours not only do you truly get a quality product but you support the continuation of local agriculture, you see where your food is raised and help continue our work farming organically and supporting our delicate environmental habitats as well.
